Course Introduction:

Total Qualification Time: 1300 hours (inclusive of internship/work placement)

The global tourism industry is one of the most successful income generators of all time.

  1. Financial Management: This module enables students to gain an understanding of main sources of finance, to understand the relationships between cost volume and profit, to carry out specific costing practices and make recommendations on prices and interpret business performance using recognised tools. It is not an in-depth accounting unit, and this should be borne in mind when planning and executing the delivery.

 

  1. Customer Relationship Management: This module covers the management of customer service operations, managing the resolution of customers’ queries and complaints, analysing the effectiveness of customer service in hospitality or tourism and understanding the use of quality systems in the tourism and hospitality industry

 

  1. Global Tourism & Hospitality: This module covers understanding the size and scope of the global tourism and hospitality industry, the food and accommodation sub-sectors, the issues and influences affecting it and the growth of global tourism and hospitality brands.

 

  1. Tourism Operations: This module covers assessing the tourism sector and the factors that affect participation in tourism, delivering travel and tourism services and tour guiding services.

 

  1. Tourism Supervision: This module covers assessing the tourism sector and the factors that affect participation in tourism, delivering travel and tourism services and tour guiding services.

 

  1. Travel Geography: This module covers understanding the features of travel geography, patterns of domestic and international tourism and the nature of tourism destinations.

 

  1. Market Analysis: This module covers understanding the principles of market analysis, carrying out a destination audit and assessing the factors that affect tourism destination development.

Entry requirement:

For Local Students

  • Poly Diploma or Higher/Advanced Diploma; OR
  • Mature candidates (≥ 30 years old with 8 years work experience); OR
  • Candidates with other qualifications will be assessed on case-by-case basis

For International Students

  • Poly Diploma or Higher/Advanced Diploma ; OR
  • Other private or foreign qualifications will be assessed on case-by-case basis

English language requirement:

  • Grade C6 in any GCE O-level subjects conducted in English, OR
  • Successfully pass Golden Compass School English Placement Test; OR
  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (applicable for International students)

Course Fees: S$9800

Award of Certificate:
Upon successful completion of coursework and examination, and a minimum of 80% attendance, students will be awarded a Specialist Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality by Golden Compass School.

Teacher-Student Ratio: Small class sizes with a minimum ratio of 1 teacher to 15 students and a maximum of 1 teacher to 35 students.

Course Duration:  Full Time: 12 Months, Part Time: 18 Months

Assessment Method: Assignments, written assessments, individual presentations, oral questioning, and case studies, with a focus on a thorough evaluation.

Delivery method: A blended learning approach combining classroom and online learning for optimal engagement and convenience.

Industrial attachment

Industrial attachment is available for 6 months and an opportunity for a continuing student to work in a professional work environment, apply learned knowledge and acquire real work experience. Attachments can be compulsory for completion of the academic curriculum of a diploma, or degree and thus credit-bearing.
