PREPARATORY COURSE FOR ADMISSION TO GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS (PRIMARY 2)

The preparatory course for admission to government schools in Singapore for Primary 

is designed to help international students prepare for the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) and 

the Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS). The course includes comprehensive instruction in English and Mathematics, focusing on the syllabus and test formats. 

It is essential for students to meet the Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) test requirements and to be well-prepared for the AEIS and S-AEIS.

Course Introduction

Learners who achieve Primary 2 level can:

  • Read short texts independently.
  • Write a few sentences with correct punctuation.
  • Speak in full sentences and listen with understanding.
  • Show confidence in using English for daily communication.

3 Writing Form letters correctly and write left to right with spaces between words.

Spell simple words using phonics knowledge.

Use basic punctuation (capital letters, full stops, question marks).

Write simple sentences and short pieces (e.g., about themselves, recounts of events).

Sequence ideas in order (first, next, last).

Begin to plan writing with a start, middle, and end.

 

4 Speaking Retell events or stories in the correct order.

Speak in complete sentences.

Take turns in conversation, using polite forms.

Use new vocabulary in speech.

Perform short recitations, rhymes, or role-play.

 

Maths syllabus typically covers foundational concepts to build a strong mathematical base. Key areas include whole numbers, money, measurement, geometry, and basic statistics

1 Whole Numbers The syllabus includes numbers up to 100, focusing on counting, notation, and place values (tens and ones). Students will read and write numbers in numerals and words, compare and order numbers, and recognize patterns in number sequences. Ordinal numbers (first, second, up to tenth) and their symbols (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) are also introduced
2 Addition and Subtraction

 

Basic addition and subtraction concepts are taught, including the use of +, –, and = signs. The relationship between addition and subtraction is emphasized. Students practice adding more than two 1-digit numbers and performing addition and subtraction within 100, including the use of algorithms. They also solve 1-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 20 and perform mental calculations involving addition and subtraction.
3 Multiplication and Division

 

The syllabus introduces the concepts of multiplication and division. Students practice multiplying within 40 and dividing within 20. They also solve 1-step word problems involving multiplication and division with pictorial representations
4 Money

 

Learn to count amounts of money in cents (up to $1) and in dollars (up to $100). They solve 1-step word problems involving the addition and subtraction of money in dollars
5 Measurement and Geometry

 

Measurement topics include measuring and comparing the lengths of objects using non-standard units and telling time to the hour or half hour. Geometry focuses on identifying, naming, describing, and classifying 2D shapes such as rectangles, squares, circles, and triangles. Students also create or complete patterns with 2D shapes based on size, shape, color, and orientation
6 Statistics

 

The data representation and interpretation section covers reading and interpreting data from picture graphs

Admission Criteria and Fees

Minimum Entry Requirement

Age: 6 years old

Academic Level: Completion of Kindergarten 2

Language Requirement: Completion of English Language at Kindergarten 2 level

Course Fees: S$12110

Award of Certificate:
Upon successful completion of coursework and examination, and a minimum of 80% attendance, students will be awarded a Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality by Golden Compass School.
